SCHAR: Blue Shield Alliance

Coming Together

It’s pretty amazing when I sit back and look at how far we’ve come with Blue Shield Alliance in just 4 months.  Yet, we are just barely at our halfway mark in terms of development.  Still there are some key things falling into place that make this game feel much more like a game and a lot less like this cool thing two guys decided to do because we were bored.

Over the course of the past few weeks I’ve realized just how much I want to put into this project and decided to actually start investing some of my own money to bring the quality level up on certain aspects.  We’ve brought in my good friend Mike Katsufrakis, who has helped me on countless projects over the years, as a character artist for the game.  I’m sure he’ll lend his artistic eye to several other things in our design as well.   He joins Nick Butler who is doing our ships and some other misc art on the project.  I’ve also spent a significant chunk of change on hiring a professional composer.  His name is Sean Beeson and he’s done some pretty kick as stuff for us already.  I had also brought in my friend Katrina Pawlowski to help with some writing and dialogue in the game itself, and she’s turned out to be a great addition to the team, providing an additional perspective on several game design ideas I had.

Lately we’ve been doing a lot of the boring programming things, stuff like interfaces and whatnot just to get the game to a playable end to end state.  After this we plan on going back in and giving every single system in the game several enhancements and coats of polish.  Theoretically we’ll have something that’s very playable in only a few short weeks – but it won’t be up to our standards in terms of looks, sound, and overall polish.

Right now a lot of my time has been spent preparing the game for our teaser trailer,  which will be the first official reveal of the game in just a week.  I’m pretty nervous about that day, as up until this point, we’ve only had to worry about ourselves.  Still I’m pretty confident in what we have and I look forward to hearing some feedback from folks.
